Show 229 - Vangelis - Live At Sofia Antipolis France - 17 Aug 1980

A quick request. If you plan on downloading this and putting it on your YouTube channel or your own bootleg page - I don't mind. But a credit to this website where you found it and a link back to this page would be really appreciated. It helps me gauge which artists are popular - ie more chance of other restorations coming. Don't just steal it, cut out the intro and outro and take the credit. Thanks.

The Show
An audience recording from the time, sent to me by a listener to the site. Vangelis live recordings are not very common but this wasn't very good quality and while I always intended to try and restore it for the website, I tried once or twice before and put it away again for another day. Until last week when I pulled it out again and finally found a way to make it sound much better.

What Was Done
The original was very toppy - everything sounded thin with lots of harsh treble and no lower end. It was also, of course, mono. And being a transfer from an old tape there were various dropouts. And when anyone in the crowd nearby spoke or cheered, well that was very loud indeed.

So - dropouts fixed, a limiter used on several areas where the audience were a little excited, and I even removed a cough or audience speech here and there. Volume was a bit up and down in places - fixed that too. Once that was done, noise reduction and some mains hum was removed - and then out came the EQ and the usual studio toys to bring back some low end, stop the "tinny" sounds, make everything sound clearer, and then mastered to make it clearer still, and more powerful overall, and a lot wider, without making it sound "weird". The result is far far better and I think now you can sit down with this on headphones and enjoy it.

Setlist
There is no real setlist for this one, but the set is broadly split into half a dozen pieces, where Vangelis explores and jams through some familiar and less works.

Be sure to check out the other gig from Vangelis I've restored HERE - also available for free.

Show 228 - Kraftwerk - Live At Coachella - 26 April 2008

But a credit to this website where you found it and a link back to this page would be really appreciated. It helps me gauge which artists are popular - ie more chance of other restorations coming. The Show
An audience recording from the time but a very clear one. This show was the last of 4 shows Kraftwerk did in the USA in April 2008 - the first shows they performed without founder member Florian Schneider, who's departure wouldn't be confirmed until the following year.

What Was Done
The recording was mostly in good condition, although the volume was a bit up and down and there's a short section of TEE which sounds quite different to the rest - I guess someone put their jacket over the mic or something. I tried to compensate for that but you can still probably hear it. There was also some audible low rumble noticeable between songs - I removed that. Otherwise, once all that was fixed it was EQ and the usual studio toys to beef up the sound, clean up the mix, and then mastered to make it clearer and more powerful overall, and wider. The result is quite a big difference from the original and sounds really good - it's an interesting set..
