Show 32: Gary Numan - Max Bell Centre, Calgary, Canada - 12 November 1980

A quick request. If you plan on downloading this and putting it on your YouTube channel or your own bootleg page - I don't mind. But a credit to this website where you found it and a link back to this page would be really appreciated. It helps me gauge which artists are popular - ie more chance of other restorations coming. Don't just steal it, cut out the intro and outro and take the credit. Thanks.

The Show

***UPDATE 2022***

Well...back when I did this it was believed the last night of the tour - which this gig clearly IS - was in Calgary. But following someone commenting below that that the last night was actually in Edmonton, Canada on 12 November 1980, I started doing some detective work. THIS is that gig. So the date is RIGHT but the venue is WRONG.

Mislabeled as Calgary back in 2013 when I found this (or was sent it, I forget which). I am pretty sure back then, online sources also had the last night of the tour as being Calgary but that has been corrected in several places since. Apparently the 2 dates were transposed when the tour was originally announced but later changed so Edmonton came at the end.

I am indebted to the poster in the comments for bringing this to my attention, and also a good friend of mine, Jeff Tolva, for helping to clear this up, and also providing the 2 images below as proof that
THIS gig is actually from the Kinsmen Field House, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 12 November 1980, and is definitely the last night of the tour - as you can hear Gary telling everyone that before the final encore.

***UPDATE ENDS***

Numan released his second solo album "Telekon" in the Autumn of 1980 and embarked on his second major tour in 12 months - and his second in the USA and Canada in 7 months. This recording features the full set from the very last night of the Teletour, after he'd already made up his mind that he would retire from touring. The show gets better through the set I think, and the last song in the set, We Are Glass, is especially exciting with lots of analogue synths squawking away.

What Was Done

This is a soundboard recording and had deteriorated with age a bit. EQ'ing and remastering has brought out the best of it I think and it's now far more listenable - it certainly proved popular with Numan fans.

UPDATE 2019: While preparing this old show as separate files for a donator to the site, I found I could now improve the sound quality further, over what I’d originally done to the recording back in 2013.

Supporting The Site

If you want to support the work I do on these recordings, and the site, and (if you wish to) obtain separate, fully tagged 320kbps MP3s of this restoration for less than the price of a coffee in return, lossless FLACs or even a lossless copy on CDR, head on over to the Rewards For Donations tab to see how you can obtain these for a very small donation towards the site costs. There is no obligation to do so of course - you can take the file on this page absolutely for free - but every single donation does go towards this site and domain/storage costs, and helps the site stay open, and helps me do more shows. Either way, enjoy the show.

  1. Looks good and with your promise of "lots of analogue synths squawking away" it should sound good too. Many thanks for another sterling effort in giving us these shows. Cheers!

  2. There's one track missing from the Setlist - "I Die: You Die" comes in between "The Joy Circuit" and "I Dream Of Wires"

  3. According to set list sites, Edmunton Alberta the next night was the final show. That show features "Stories" and said to be the source of the Living Ornaments 80 expanded disc.

    1. Back when I did this show, listings were definitely showing Calgary as the last night but hey, new info comes to light all the time. Thanks for pointing that out. The LO 80 expanded disc was taken from Manchester UK though, not Edmonton (I used to know the guy who remastered that for Beggars Banquet). Stories was dropped for the US/Canada leg of the tour.

  4. The Teletour expanded disc has the same band intro at the end (..and then there's this lot...) as your posting ?

    1. And that's the same as the Edmonton show? It's been years since I heard the LO80 CD - but I haven't heard the Edmonton show at all.

    2. The band intro part of the expanded LO 80 was taken the Newcastle gig!

    3. All cleared up. This is definitely from the last night, and it is definitely Edmonton, not Calgary. I've heard the Calgary recording and this is not that. Got to love badly labeled bootlegs... So I've updated the page text to make it clear which gig it is.
