Show 61 - Sex Pistols - Live at The Great Southeast Music Hall - 5 January 1978

This week, Live and Loud! brings you the Sex Pistols from the very first date of their American tour. The Pistols finally released their debut album "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols" in October 1977 and were then booked for a 7 date tour of the USA - mainly concentrating on the southern States. By the end of those 7 dates in mid January, the Pistols had played their last gig, and Johnny Rotten had walked away from the band. But this is their first American show.

For this one, mainly I removed some tape noise and EQ'ed to take away the muddiness as much as possible, without trying to polish it - after all, the Pistols never sounded "polished".

The show is available for download HERE as 1 320 kbps MP3 file.

Or, if you would like to have separate tagged MP3s, or even lossless files in FLAC format, head on over to the Donations tab to see how you can obtain these for a very small donation towards the site costs.

The future of Live and Loud! is right here

Hi all. We did have some technical issues with broadcasting the latest Live and Loud! show (the Bowie 1996 show which is already proving really popular) and so I've taken the decision that Live and Loud! shows will be uploaded to here directly when they're ready, rather than on internet radio first.

Keep in touch with announcements by either bookmarking/saving this site as a favourite, or following me on Twitter, or if you're on Facebook, there's a Flip Martian page you can like, and/or a group to join. All latest shows will be posted there when ready.

Live and Loud! continues to be popular - this archive now has over 39000 hits and there have been over 15000 downloads. So stay tuned, lots to come, as I've noted in posts before. Next up, in about 10 days time - The Sex Pistols, from 1978. And do keep letting me know what you think of shows, and indeed, if you have any requests - I've had requests recently for Big Country and Crowded House, and they're both coming soon.

Cheers!

Show 60 - David Bowie - Live at Bridge School Festival - 19 and 20 October 1996

I wanted to mark David Bowie's passing with something quite special; something quite different to the 1974 Bowie gig already in the archives (HERE, if you haven't seen it). Something which would show a different side to the artist, and the man; I think these performances are it. These recordings were in good condition - some EQ took away some harshness and I repaired a few spots where there was distortion on the vocal.

This show features 2 performances by Bowie at benefit gigs for The Bridge School, an annual event for a school founded by Neil Young and his now ex-wife Pegi in 1986, that continues to run to this day. Featuring Reeves Gabrels on guitar, Gail Ann Dorsey on bass, and Bowie himself on guitar and a bottle top strapped to his foot to keep time, these almost acoustic sets include songs rarely performed elsewhere. There are 2 sets as Bowie performed both days of the gig, over a weekend. At least 1 more (probably more) remastered Bowie gig will be posted up on here over the next few months.

Update 2018
While preparing this old show as separate files for a donator to the site, I found I could now improve the sound quality further, over what I’d originally done to the recording several years ago. You can now download this new version (as of 2018) HERE as 1 new 320kbps MP3 file.

If you would like to have separate tagged MP3s, or even lossless files in FLAC format of the new version, head on over to the Donations tab to see how you can obtain these for a very small donation towards the site costs.
