Show 104 - The Undertones - New Pop Festival Zuiderpark Rotterdam - 7 September 1980

This week its The Undertones in a short but excellent set from a festival in the Netherlands. Originally an FM radio broadcast, they cram 7 songs into their short set lasting about 18 minutes - but its a great 18 minutes. Kicking off with a couple of singles from their latest album, Hypnotised, you then get 2 earlier singles, a  couple of covers and finishing off with Teenage Kicks.

As usual a defect or 2 were cleaned up and then 30 band EQ applied to what was originally a flat sounding recording. After that, a sprinkling of studio toys to bring things to life a little more - now the guitars ring and you can actually hear the drums!

2020 update: While preparing this old show as separate files for a donator to the site, I found I could now improve the sound quality further, over what I’d originally done to the recording several years ago. You can now download this new version (as of 2020) HERE as 1 new 320kbps MP3 file.

Or, if you would like to have separate tagged MP3s, or even lossless files in FLAC format, head on over to the Donations tab to see how you can obtain these for a very small donation towards the site costs.

  2. I was there back in 1980 at NewPop fest in Rotterdam, awesome gig. I remember The ground was jumping in front of the stage.

    1. Cool, thanks for that. Hope this brought back a few memories. Always wished I'd been able to see them back then.

  3. I saw the whole excellent gig and I remember that Fergal Sharky was not wearing a t-shirt because it was a hot sunny day after weeks of rain in august 1980.
Other bands I did see where The Passions, Hazel O;Connor, New Musik,
and The Ramones. I was there with former schoolfriends of the MAVO Morgenster like Kees van de Bos, Paul van Oosten en the late but great Zeger de Bruyn who is
nog longer with us, sad enough he died to young.
