A debut for Icehouse this time - or more accurately, Flowers in this case as that was still their name back in 1980 when this gig was recorded from Australian radio.
This
recording was originally 1 side of a C120 cassette (remember them?!) and was apparently transferred to digital from that - whoever recorded the original and whoever transferred it both did a great job! Apart from some tape dropouts and a few clicks which I fixed as best I could, the sound was pretty clear. Clearly it's not the complete gig - FM broadcasts so rarely are. 30 band EQ has tightened up and taken some rough edges off the bass and improved the clarity of the recording. I hope you enjoy
the results!
Incidentally, the gig files I had were just marked as "June 1980" - but Setlist.fm had the gig down as 1 June 1980, so that's what I originally went with. However, thanks to a listener commenting below, it appears the date of this show is 19 June 1980. And Iva Davies did release this via Facebook back around 2011 - as it was for free, and is long gone now, I'm hoping he won't mind this version being here.
***2025 UPDATE***
Someone donated to the website and asked for this gig as separate files. Given I did this restoration over 6 years ago, I figured it was worth me trying to improve on what I had done before. So with better software than I had at the time and new mastering tools, I was able to improve quite a bit on the sound quality! My donor was sent that new version and you now get that new version for free here too. And as it's stored on the new cloud server, it's also now streamable for the first time!

Supporting The Site
If
you want to support the work I do on these recordings, and (if you wish to) obtain separate, fully tagged 320kbps MP3s of this
restoration for less than the price of a coffee in return, or lossless
FLACs - or even a lossless copy on CDR - head on over to the Rewards For Donations tab
to see how you can obtain these for a very small donation towards the
site. There is NO OBLIGATION to do so of course - you can take the
file on this page absolutely for free - but every single donation is
appreciated and helps me do more shows and update some of the
software I use as time goes by. Either way, enjoy the show.

I have the free download of this concert which was available on the Icehouse Spellbound Facebook page at some point and it says Flowers Live at Centenary Hall Melbourne, June 19, 1980 and these tracks were not included on the Icehouse 30th Anniversary Edition.
ReplyDeleteAha - cool, thanks for the info. I'll update the heading on the page, at least. I wonder what the source was for the free download off FB then. Much appreciated!
DeleteIva Davies found the recording from Melbourne radio station 3RRR when going through the archives but wanted to share the whole concert as a free download and so didn't include any of the tracks on the Icehouse 30th Anniversary Edition.
DeleteInteresting stuff, thanks. Couldn't find any info about this recording being available at all before I worked on it. I had a look for this full set release too without any luck so I guess it's no longer available. In any case, thanks for all that.
