Welcome - About Live and Loud!

Live and Loud! began as a fortnightly internet radio show in 2012 taking old unreleased live concert recordings I could find and working to repair and improve them - fixing tape hiss, noise, tape drop out, clicks, speed variations, defects - before improving the sound quality by EQing the sound to bring out the instruments as clearly as possible. These are now made directly available to download for free to reach as many fans of the music as possible.

Depending on the quality of the original recording, these can often be made to sound almost like commercial recordings - but of course I can't guarantee that for every show. What I can guarantee is it will sound far better than the original files available which have been floating around the internet and on bootleg recordings for many years.

Almost all are either "soundboard" recordings (taken directly from the mixing desk used at the gig on the night) or old FM radio recordings. A few gigs, if they are of special historical importance, make an appearance even if they were recorded from the audience - these can also be made to sound better than ever.

Do your ears a favour and listen on headphones or good speakers to get most benefit - laptop speakers will always sound pretty poor by comparison.

All shows still available are listed, including a link to download the remastered show for free. And finally... These are great fun to listen to but DO NOT replace original releases - support these artists and buy their music. There is nothing you can go and buy in a regular record store here. If a gig is made available as a regular release, then it will be removed (as a couple have been already).

Radio Prog 5 - Yazoo - John Peel Session Recorded 16 February 1982


Live and Loud! Radio is an occasional series of free downloads, starting January 2017. Radio sessions that never got an official release, sympathetically repaired and remastered and then released onto the internet, all for free.

No theme tune, no intro from me - just the original session, repaired and remastered and available in a downloadable zip file containing each separate track.

The only files I could find online were fairly low bitrate MP3s of a sometimes quite noisy and harsh recording so these were saved as WAVs for working on.

Hiss reduction applied to reduce - but not eliminate - quite a lot of the noise. Each track then had 30 band EQ to remove top end harshness and enhance the lower end - kick drums and bass synths. The middle was then eased down a bit make it clearer and create more "space" in the tracks between the instruments. Sounds far better now. Enjoy!

    Many Thanks that you upload this..Amazing BBC John peel Session Wss nice to hear these classy synthpop tunes with Yazoo In different versions Don'go have such fantastic synth sound..That you never hear in normal studio version

    Winter kills is a very superstrong deep tune Quite , Fantastic song with yazoo

    I am very glad to hear this Yazoo And have you maybe more gem with Yazoo ? to share with us..in a future

    And Even Fantastic Ultravox....When Midge is singer. These latest from Lyon France With Ultravox was pure Best..Such a Best Singer Midge ure is !!

    Btw Have you any Recording with Messengers ? They was support act to Ultravox 1984, 1985, 0r was is 1982,, i imagine...Will be super if you have any Recording With Messengers !!

      Thanks Tomas - glad you've found stuff to enjoy on here! Check out also the Yazoo gig from 1982 on this site, if you haven't found it yet - just look under "Yazoo" in the tags on the right and you will find it!

      Messengers - yes, they were support in 1984 and also played with them on stage 1982-1984. I do have 1 recording but it is very poor quality; I'm not sure I can do much with it. Maybe a better one will come along sometime...

    Hello Again Flip.. Yes I would really like to hear How Messengers. Sound Live I Have theirs fantastic 12" Maxi vinyl singles..So that would quite Interesting = Fingers crossed, That you can have any Recording with this Band / And Would that be More Ultravox ?? When Midge Ure is the Singer Like from 1982 -83 or so even 81 then..Anyway..Thanks for your always nice Recordings Here , I really like these alot / Tomas

      Ok - I took my info from the John Peel Sessions website I think. Broadcast in July, so June recording sounds more feasible, for sure.
