Welcome - About Live and Loud!

Live and Loud! began as a fortnightly internet radio show in 2012 taking old unreleased live concert recordings I could find and working to repair and improve them - fixing tape hiss, noise, tape drop out, clicks, speed variations, defects - before improving the sound quality by EQing the sound to bring out the instruments as clearly as possible. These are now made directly available to download for free to reach as many fans of the music as possible.

Depending on the quality of the original recording, these can often be made to sound almost like commercial recordings - but of course I can't guarantee that for every show. What I can guarantee is it will sound far better than the original files available which have been floating around the internet and on bootleg recordings for many years.

Almost all are either "soundboard" recordings (taken directly from the mixing desk used at the gig on the night) or old FM radio recordings. A few gigs, if they are of special historical importance, make an appearance even if they were recorded from the audience - these can also be made to sound better than ever.

Do your ears a favour and listen on headphones or good speakers to get most benefit - laptop speakers will always sound pretty poor by comparison.

All shows still available are listed, including a link to download the remastered show for free. If you want to support the site with a small donation, you can receive the shows as either separate MP3s or FLACs (your choice) - head over to the Rewards for Donations page and see how you can get a lot for very little!

If you want to email me, an email link is in my profile in a link in the side panel.

And finally... These are great fun to listen to but DO NOT replace original releases - support these artists and buy their music.
There is nothing you can go and buy in a regular record store here. If a gig is made available as a regular release, then it will be removed (as a couple have been already).

Show 136 - Simple Minds - Live At De Gigant Apeldoorn - 22 March 1980

A truncated recording of Simple Minds on their tour of late 1979 and early 1980, in support of the Real To Real Cacophony album, originally (I think) from Dutch radio. There is a more well known recording from Amsterdam from the following night but I chose this less well known one which needed a bit of work. This responded well to being cleaned up with some EQ and sounds really good, although I had to fade out the last track "Pleasantly Disturbed" as it's chopped off on the source recording.

You can download all of this improved recording for free HERE as one 320 kbps MP3 file.

Or, if you would like to support the site with a small donation towards storage subscription and internet costs, in return you can have the remastered show as separate, properly tagged MP3s or even lossless files in FLAC format; head on over to the Donations tab to see how you can do this.

Either way - enjoy the show!

Show 135 - Gary Numan - Live At Ocean State Theatre, Providence - 21 Feb 1980

A second show from Numan's tour of North America in early 1980 (the other show I did back in 2012 is here). Unlike that soundboard recording, this one does feature all the songs in the set, even including the intro tape.So you also get 3 tracks not released until later in the year (I Die:You Die and early versions of Remind Me To Smile and Remember I was Vapour, from the next Telekon album).

While it is a recording from the audience, it's a pretty good one and has possibly been worked on a bit by someone before. However, I did still have a fair bit of work to do. It had to be slowed down for a start - the source files were running about 8-10 bpm too fast and Gary sounded about 12 in places... Then there were 2 bits where the sound skipped a few seconds and also some random clicks appearing in places which I fixed as best I could (try finding them now...!) and then I got to work with EQ to improve the sound a bit - the drums now have more prominence and it's all a bit clearer. I believe some tracks from the original are on YouTube if you want to compare.

2021 UPDATE
2 years on and I had a listen to this and decided I could improve the sound quality further still using the newer software tools I own now. For an audience recording it now sounds really excellent I think. You can download all of this new and improved version of this gig for free HERE.

For those of you who donated for separated files of this before - email me again and I'll happily send you the new version once I've checked you against my paypal records.

For everyone else, if you would like to support the site with a small donation towards storage subscription and internet costs, in return you can have the remastered show as separate, properly tagged MP3s or even lossless files in FLAC format; head on over to the Donations tab to see how you can do this. But there is absolutely no obligation to do so.

Either way - enjoy the show!
