Welcome - About Live and Loud!

Live and Loud! began as a fortnightly internet radio show in 2012 taking old unreleased live concert recordings I could find and working to repair and improve them - fixing tape hiss, noise, tape drop out, clicks, speed variations, defects - before improving the sound quality by EQing the sound to bring out the instruments as clearly as possible. These are now made directly available to download for free to reach as many fans of the music as possible.

Depending on the quality of the original recording, these can often be made to sound almost like commercial recordings - but of course I can't guarantee that for every show. What I can guarantee is it will sound far better than the original files available which have been floating around the internet and on bootleg recordings for many years.

Almost all are either "soundboard" recordings (taken directly from the mixing desk used at the gig on the night) or old FM radio recordings. A few gigs, if they are of special historical importance, make an appearance even if they were recorded from the audience - these can also be made to sound better than ever.

Do your ears a favour and listen on headphones or good speakers to get most benefit - laptop speakers will always sound pretty poor by comparison.

All shows still available are listed, including a link to download the remastered show for free. And finally... These are great fun to listen to but DO NOT replace original releases - support these artists and buy their music. There is nothing you can go and buy in a regular record store here. If a gig is made available as a regular release, then it will be removed (as a couple have been already).

Live and Loud Archive is 2 years old (part 2)

With this site reaching the grand old age of 2 yesterday, I totted up how many downloads there had been since the shows started in 2012. No big surprise that the bands I've done the most shows of have had the most downloads but if you're curious to know just how many there have been, now you know.

The last post was based on how many times each show page on here has been read - that doesn't always equate to someone downloading a show. On the other hand, some shows were available for download before the archive was set up so the numbers will never match.

Live and Loud! is 2 years old today! We now have almost 30,000 genuine hits against the show pages. To mark the occasion I thought I'd just list out each of the shows and how often they've been visited (ie how popular they've been since the archive opened). Some surprises in there! And you might find a few you've missed.

Remember, they're all still here on the archive to download for free - just search them out on the right hand side by year or by band/artist name!

Some Statistics

So Live and Loud! shows have been available for quite some time online and in early August I took all the downloads offline temporarily as I was moving all the files to a more accessible service. So I took the opportunity to do some counting up of how popular each show had been. I thought you might be interested too! It also shows which shows there have been up to now in 1 place. No pretty graphics or anything, just a couple of tables.

As the new downloads are made available, no doubt some of this will change but I thought this was a good point to take a snapshot from.

Shows 46 - 57 were only available to stream on Mixcloud (no doubt some found a way to download them of course!) so any totals marked * include streaming figures. Oh, and original listening figures from the original internet radio broadcast aren't available as...no-one thought to collect them!
