A quick request. If you plan on downloading this and putting it on your YouTube channel or your own bootleg page - I don't mind. But a credit to this website where you found it and a link back to this page would be really appreciated. It helps me gauge which artists are popular - ie more chance of other restorations coming. Don't just steal it, cut out the intro and outro and take the credit. Thanks.
The Show
Rich Kids - once billed as a "punk super group" - lasted just over 1 year before going their separate ways so live recordings are not common. This is an audience recording I came across some years ago (can't remember from where). An interesting set, including Small Faces, The Byrds and Bowie covers, alongside their own songs - but not their most recent (2nd single) Marching Men, which had stiffed. It's not the clearest raw material I've ever worked with but it does give you an idea what gigs at this level were like in 1978!
What Was Done
I did my best to clean up the recording to make it clearer - a few bits of damage were repaired before I got to work on trying to improve the clarity. The drums were quiet and the whole thing was a mass of loud guitars and vocals but I was able to separate out the instruments a bit and make the drums and vocals a bit clearer. Once that was done, I mastered to widen the sound and make it more powerful. As with most gigs recorded in the crowd, especially from over 40 years ago, you will hear the odd bit of feedback although I was able to remove most of it.
I hope you enjoy it. And for those who don't know - yes, that really is a young Midge Ure on vocals and guitar...
