Show 15: Talk Talk - Plaza de Toros, Salamanca, Spain, 10 September 1986

This was originally a gig broadcast on Spanish television at the time and this was a fairly dry soundboard mix I think. Its responded fairly well to remastering, so if you like Talk Talk in their later period, you will enjoy this. The recording seemed to be a little bit slow, so I corrected that too.

Show 13: The Sweet - At Eissporthalle Berlin, Germany - 16 May 1976

In 1976 The Sweet finally broke away from their songwriters and penned their own first album, Give Us A Wink. Always popular in Germany, this gig is a soundboard recording of their night in Berlin and features their...unusual twist on some of the lyrics to their hits! I remember this one took a while to work on - some tape faults, noise and a fair bit of EQ - but for a mid 70s recording it sounds pretty damn decent now - enjoy!

Show 12: Duran Duran - Hammersmith Odeon, London, UK - 3 November 1982

Taken from the Rio tour and featuring a great set picking some of the best tracks from their first 2 albums, this was originally an FM radio broadcast and has polished up nicely - it really does sound excellent.

Show 11: Depeche Mode - Tiffany's Glasgow - 21 February 1982

Another pivotal gig this one - this captures Depeche Mode on the See You tour, shortly after Vince Clarke left in November 1981 and after recruiting Alan Wilder to the lineup as his replacement. "See You", the first single written by Martin Gore, was released 1 month before this gig and the setlist features what would become their next single, "The Meaning of Love". An interesting snapshot of a band at the early stages of transition and featuring a bizarre choice of a Gerry and The Pacemakers song as an encore!

Show 10: Kraftwerk - Museum Of Modern Art, New York, 13 April 2012

One of several nights performing at this venue in New York in April 2012, this recording is of the performance nominally highlighting the Man Machine album (but still with a setlist spanning most of their career). This was one of the few recordings taken from the audience in the Live And Loud! series but I hope you'll agree its an important enough recording to warrant broadcast. Remastering and EQ has helped make the most of this one and has resulted in a very clear recording.

Show 9: Blancmange - Hammersmith Odeon, London, UK - November 1985

Another gig at an important point in time for the band concerned - in this case, its just as Blancmange were to separate. They'd just released their 3rd album - "Believe You Me" - which didn't do too well and this was their last tour until they got back together a few years ago. An FM radio broadcast, its cleaned up nicely and sounds superb. Neil Arthur is his usual engagingly chatty self.

Show 8: Boomtown Rats - Middlesex Polytechnic, UK, 22 September 1978

This was an FM radio broadcast I found on the web (I forget where) and is a great early show from the Rats - a very powerful performance. This gig catches them at a pivotal point in their career - Rat Trap was due to be released a few weeks later and would become their first number one single in the UK.

While the source was pretty clear and in decent condition luckily, a bit of EQ and remastering certainly hasn't done this any harm at all - enjoy!

Show 7: David Bowie - Universal Amphitheatre, Los Angeles, USA, 5 September 1974

I was really pleased to find this one - from the later, second leg of the the 1974 tour, an alternative gig to the gigs in Philadelphia which formed the official release David Live! with some different band members. Its a full soundboard recording - and of course, a complete live record of one gig, not a composite. It  responded pretty well to some tarting up!

I'm happy to say the remaster I did was downloaded nearly 2000 times in the time it was up, so thanks to all who grabbed it and spread the word. However, the link to this show has now been removed.

Why? Well, it was released officially for the first time in 2017 for Record Store Day - and Tony Visconti himself remastered from the original tapes - while my remaster was a big improvement on the existing bootlegs, the gig will never sound better than with TV remastering it. And in keeping with my own thoughts on this - once the whole recording is released officially it comes off the archive. More info on the official release here.

Show 6: Ultravox - Crystal Palace Bowl, London, UK, 13 June 1981

From the Crystal Palace Garden Party - what used to be an annual gig - held in south London. Not absolutely sure this is a complete set - I've seen some discussion that suggested they had Quiet Men and possibly Slow Motion in the set as well - but either way it is a pretty rare recording. Private Lives, taken from this set, was used as a b-side at 1 point, but the version here is from the same source as the rest of the show.

Some EQ'ing and a little repairing of the sound quality has worked wonders; hope you enjoy it!

Show 5: Gary Numan - The Palladium, New York, USA, 24 February 1980

A quick request. If you plan on downloading this and putting it on your YouTube channel or your own bootleg page - I don't mind. But a credit to this website where you found it and a link back to this page would be really appreciated. It helps me gauge which artists are popular - ie more chance of other restorations coming. Don't just steal it, cut out the intro and outro and take the credit. Thanks.
 

The Show

Gary Numan followed up his debut national tour of the UK in the Autumn of 1979 by taking the Touring Principle tour into Europe and then across the world. By early 1980 he was touring the USA and Canada. This set features some changes from the UK tour, including an early version of Remind Me To Smile, which featured on the Telekon album released 8 months later.

What Was Done

This (I'm pretty sure) was originally a a soundboard - sounds to me like a soundboard as its quite flat (or it was before I EQ'ed it) but its not the complete gig either, which is unusual (but not unknown) for soundboards. It's also mono - which soundboards often were at that time. Anyway, I EQ'ed and remastered it and its a great addition to any Numan collection with some raw sounding synthing all the way through!

UPDATE: While preparing this old show as separate files for a donator to the site, I found I could now improve the sound quality further, over what I’d originally done to the recording back in 2012. Once I did that, I also expanded the sound a bit so it sounds more stereo than mono; this is an all new version, really.
